In honor of "Obstacle 1" being so good, not being able to go their show, and missing them on 120 Minutes, today was officially proclaimed "Peter's Effort to Dress Cool Like Interpol Day."
Went very nicely, thank you.
"Put all of your mp3's into your Winamp player and hit shuffle. What are the first 10 songs to come up?"
The French Kicks - "Close to Modern" - Lazy, slowly turning around pop. The chorus is nice.
Liars - "Tumbling Walls Buried Me in the Debris with ESG" - self-explanatory, obviously. as tight as Thriller era MJ, but so much scarier (that was irrelevant, wasn't it?)
Hot Snakes - "Paid in Cigarettes" - just ok. this one is kinda surfy.
The Strokes - "Meet Me in the Bathroom" - faster version. mm beautiful. their next album is gonna be full of all of these stunning melodic lines, but as usual contain heightened contrast between that and their raw, intense parts. as far as i can tell.
Interpol - "NYC" - music that feels like it matters
Sahara Hotnights - "Only the Fakes Survive" - sigh.. this is tired. where are the Hives?
Britney Spears - "Boys (co-ed remix)" - heyzeus christoff the Neptunes are on fire. too bad N.E.R.D. sucks SO HARD. and who says Britney isn't a good role model for girls? seriously
Talking Heads - "Life During Wartime [from Stop Making Sense]" - extended synth intro. worth it for the reminders of David Byrne dancing. synths really kick this shit up a notch, if that was possible
David Cross - "My Wife's Crazy!" - I'm gonna get flags tatooed on my eyelids. for America.
Missy Elliott - "Slide" - Courtesy of Thrown Askew, i think. dope rhymes. but couldn't it just turn into "Work It"? wait, nevermind. ("They used to call me fatty / till I got with Puff Daddy.")
