I AM EMPTY, YOU ARE EMPTY

After streaming the new Moving Units album, Dangerous Dreams, I knew that I had to have a burned copy to bring to parties. It's circulating pretty well online, so that wasn't hard. Moving Units have been a band I have been looking forward to hearing from ever since seeing them open for the Walkmen at the Bowery Ballroom over a year ago. Their live show is a non-stop orgy of huge bass lines and ferocious drumming that really leaves a mark.

On record, the band is not hugely innovative. Minimal, repetitive guitar lines start songs that are driven by melodic bass lines. There is also something to be said for their truly amazing drummer, who pounds out a myriad of dance-punk beats with insane precision. The lyrics aren't fantastic (if I hear another song with the word "disco" or "radio" in it, I might vom). However, the best part about Moving Units is that they will actually MAKE YOU DANCE. On albums from The Faint, Liars, and even The Rapture, there are songs that clearly interrupt the flow of the album (see: "Open Up Your Heart"). There isn't a skippable track on the new Moving Units LP, which means you can just put it on, start a dance party, and not have to worry about skipping tracks. You will almost definitely find this album somewhere in my top 10, or at least 15, of the year. Listen to the song they usually close their sets with, "Birds".

The Modern Age rubs down Siren Fest. Wait, rubs down? I need to go back to bed.

FluxBlog has a download of Pixeltan's "Get Up/Say What (DFA mix)".

The New Yorker on Bjork, Sigur Ros, and other Icelandic music.

Stereogum reminds me, the new issue of NME comes with a Domino Records sampler that is pretty rad, featuring The Ferd, The Kills, Sons and Daughters, Clinic, etc. Check it out here.

Details on new Manic Street Preachers album.

Babyshambles on tour.

NY Times on Little Steven's Garage Fest, Rilo Kiley. And wow, mp3 bloggers are getting a huge amount of press lately. NY Times talks about the Music For Robots/Secret Machines/Warner Bros. deal and online marketing. Also, Bjork does a fashion spread for the Times' magazine, but I've got no good way of linking it. Go here and click on Bjork.

And happy birthday to me. Ahem.

one of the numerous times that i've seen moving units, they've only done their keyboardy, slower jawn once and estentially apologized after playing. blake just said, "what? we had to do it sooner or later".

"It really is the poppiest album we’ve ever done" These words of Nicky Wire make me think bad of the album...
