Montreal's music scene gets elevated to "next big thing" status in the NY Times. Les Georges Leningrad, The Stills, The Dears, Stars, The Unicorns, The Arcade Fire and more are mentioned, as well as various misspellings. I've been to Montreal so many times... never been to a show there.
My favorite band The Kills get profiled in the NY Times and Guardian [link from The Modern Age]. VV had her hair cut with her bangs in her face and looks really weird in both photos. She looks better in person and on tape (watch the excellent/bizarre video for new single "The Good Ones" at their site). Both articles are rather informative and a good, quick read. My favorite bit from the latter:

As Hince pours us coffee and apologises for the lack of milk ("we're chain-smoking vegans"), a picture emerges of the duo's life. Inspired by the Velvet Underground's dedication to their art, the pair formed the Kills as a complete entity where writing, drawing and the approach to life is as important as the music, which is as lean as the pair themselves. Their second album, No Wow, was made in a little over a month and features angular, impassioned songs that strip rock'n'roll down to its beating heart. Some MTV exec gets to do a playlist, including The Secret Machines and demos of NIN.
Live review of Low in NYC. I listened to their cover of "Transmission" today and it was painful. But I really like "Everybody's Song" from The Great Destroyer. More on Low here.
Marianne Faithfull's latest CD is in the Critics' Choice. It is a bunch of collaborations with Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Damon Albarn and more. I played a song on the radio last week and it was really rad.
M.I.A. in the rock/pop listings.
Pete Doherety arrested again. More info on Libertines happenings; may or may not keep the name without Doherety.
Info on the forthcoming Weezer album. Brendan Benson on tour. Bob Dylan on tour. Info on the MTV2 relaunch. Beck's next album to be released in three different editions. Info on Malkmus's third solo album. Bloc Party US tour info.
Pitchfork finally reviews Tussle's latest LP, Kling Klang. At one point, Tussle was a featured artist on Pitchfork; they waited a few months before reviewing the album. The review is positive, but the rating is lower than the tone of the review makes it out to be.
Brooklyn Vegan was at M.I.A.'s third US show. I'm reviewing Arular for Radio K.
