ROCK N ROLL CIRCUS

EDIT: THE SIGHTS BROKE AN AXLE ON THEIR VAN IN CHICAGO. THEY HAVE CANCELLED THEIR SHOW TONIGHT AT THE ASCOT ROOM. :[

The Futureheads are still playing tonight at the Fine Line, but I completely forgot about a show tonight with an equally high-potential-for-rocking. The Sights will be opening for Radio 4 at the Quest's Ascot Room tonight.

The Sights are a three piece band from Detroit, and they rock the blues - HARD. I had the pleasure of seeing them open for The Kills a year and a half ago, and they blew me away. They play classic sounds with guitar, organ and drums, but make them sound fresh. The band brings an electric prescense to the stage and are totally worth seeing, even if you don't know their recorded work (which doesn't really live up to their live show).

The band's next, self-titled album will be out on James Iha's imprint Scratchie Records on April 12. Hopefully, the new album will bring their live show sound to record. This new song, "Circus", seems to be an indication that it will - download it. They will supposedly be heading out on another tour with The Kills, which will make for another must-see line-up, but as far as I know those dates have yet to be officially announced, and they won't be with The Kills in Minneapolis.

Radio 4 is headlining the show. While the band's last record was one of last year's worst releases, they still have a ferocious live prescense (and all those sickening glossy drum machines and keyboards are gone on stage). Worth catching. I will be doing my best to hit The Sights and then make my way over to the Fine Line to see The Futureheads.

On an unrelated note, Pitchfork ran a terrible review today of Mommy and Daddy's latest EP, which absolutely missed the point of their music. It's almost hilarious to read how wrong the reviewer is. To prove them wrong, just head over to the duo's website a stream a few of their fercious electro-punk tracks. Hot shit.

pitchfork totally missed the mark on their mommy/daddy review. i read it this morning and was like... wtf?

confection is such a catchy song. and the music really speaks for itself.

i don't get pitchfork.. when they're on they're on. but when they don't understand something then they just write a bad review and act like anyone who likes it doesn't know what they're talking about. its obnoxious.

that date with USE is actually a misprint. check mommy and daddy's website for real dates.

The new EP is great, fun stuff. It sounds like the reviewer heard the EP and was turned off by the shouting and never really listened to it. Am I the only one that gets a sense of very clever, dry humor from M&D? It's like they're a study of absurdity or something... they're awesome and best of breed in my opinion.

I refuse to take any Pitchfork review seriously while they continue to promote "artists" like Jay-Z and Fifty Cent.
