ROUND-UP: HUMAN AFTER ALL

The album I anticipated most this year was Daft Punk's third LP, Human After All. Homework is one of my favorite albums ever, and Discovery is constantly growing on me. Unfortunately, the new album is not very exciting, especially for a duo as consistently exciting as Daft Punk.

Most people are having trouble making their minds up about the record. Stylus says it's great as a comment on current popular music, but I say that's BS. Their review doesn't talk about the actual music. I think I side more with Pitchfork on this one, and it's pretty disappointing. But the title track and "Robot Rock" are still rocking. I still need to give it a few more listens before I have a firm opinion on it.

A lengthy interview with M.I.A. on Pitchfork.

I've been listening to Earlimart's latest LP, Treble & Tremble, off and on lately. It's a nice listen. They gave their top 10 songs by ex-Beatles to Pitchork.

Brazilian Girls are featured in the Times.

Secret Machines release "Road Leads Where It's Led" as their next single; there's something different about the release but I can't figure out what it is. The concurrent grooves they speak of? Dunno.

Billboard SXSW diary featuring The Go! Team and The Kills. Tourdates for The Kills are here.

Robert Plant gets a lifetime Grammy; guh?

More information on the new Gorillaz LP.

The theatrical Dresden Dolls were handpicked by Trent Reznor to open for NIN's reformation tour, and Reznor hasn't even seen the band live yet.

Oasis is touring with Jet and Kasabian; so much mediocrity.

Interpol's next single is "C'mere", and for b-sides, each member did a remix. That could prove to be interesting (or boring). Pitchfork had a sort-of unique prespective review on a NC live Interpol show.

Pitchfork is curating a festival in Chicago that holds some potential - Nick is DJing.

The 'fork's review of the new Kaiser Chiefs' record is prett spot-on. I think I also agree with their review of Thunderbirds Are Now!

Doves tourdates with Mercury Rev.

Hey, this is random but I read this site once in a while and I like reading it a lot. I usually only like hip-hop like The Roots, Tribe, etc. but I started listening to some bands you talk about and I like a lot of new music because of this site. Anyway, keep up the good work. -Matt

Daft Punk's 'Human After All,' isn't THAT bad... I admit, the album isn't as good as Discovery but few follow up albums are...

On a side note, 'Robot Rock' is AWESOME (should be the theme song of all the soldiers in Iraq, kill in style) and 'make love,' and 'emotion,' aren't that bad either...
