6:30 pm - The Go! Team
After my interview with DFA1979, I headed over to the whatever-it's-called stage to catch the end of the Go! Team's set. I have to say, I can't stand their record, but only because of the recording quality. The songs seem fun and energetic, but the complete lack of any bass in the recording drives me insane. Dance music that's all treble makes me nauseous. But I had read earlier that the band is insane live, and that the singer says they go all out for each show, and I figured live they'd have plenty of bass, so I checked them out.
I was glad I did. Their energy was over-the-top insanity, and boy was it infectious. The whole crowd was grinning and laughing and dancing like crazy. I don't know how much of the songs were made up of samples (it looked like a lot, since they don't have a horn section and the drummer doesn't look exactly prolific when playing), but nobody cared. The lead singer was dancing the entire time, rapping and singing over all the songs and trying to pump up the crowd. For the grand finale, they brough a bunch of elemantry school kids up to dance on stage with them, and it was crazy-fantastique.
