This shit is bananas. TIME's Persons of the Year, formerly Person of the Year, formerly Man of the Year, is Bill and Melinda Gates, and BONO. Bono, the dude whose trademarks are pink Gucci glasses and acting like an ass.
I don't mind musicians dabbling in politics. If you've got fame and money, I don't blame you for trying to have your say in the world. But Bono has gone way too far. He's meeting with all kinds of officials, singing for the president, making shitty videos, voting in congress... Who the fuck elected him president of rock and roll? Not me. That's for sure.
I was talking earlier last week with my roommate about our shared love of early U2 albums. And while Bono and the rhythm section are definitely necessary, it's the Edge's guitar work that totally makes albums like The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree good albums. He's got all those rad guitars, and that huge box of effects that I saw on a VH1 special, and he uses delay like an MF from hell. Plus, he ditched the cowboy hat and now rocks that beanie, which is also rad.
Because of this, I announce that we know who TIME's real Person of the Year should be: The Edge. He's way cooler than Bono.
