NO NOT RIGHT NOW

I meant to do the "Editors are going to be huge" post a few months ago. Consider this the "Editors are in the process of becoming huge" post, I guess.

I've been listening to The Back Room on and off since I got it a few months ago, and it is actually very good, probably one of my top 20 from last year (disregard my ILM poll votes). It sounds a lot like Interpol, yes, but I would say it sounds even more under the influence of the 80s than that band. The lead singer arguably sounds a lot more like Ian Curtis than Paul Banks, and you can also hear Echo and the Bunnymen, New Order, and a number of other really good bands in their sound.

One of the things I like the most about Editors is that, in my mind, they have an appreciation of early U2 albums, shown in the expansive guitar work, and in the rhythm section at times. Of course, it's a two guitar band so the arrangements are much different (more Interpol), but the general feeling is there, and I don't think enough bands have really picked up on that (Boy, War, Unforgettable Fire) vibe.

Editors played Rothko last night and the Mercury Lounge the night before in NYC. Apparently their live show is great so hype is gathering fast. See photos from Mediaeater, The Modern Age and Brooklyn Vegan.

Right now the LP is only out in the UK; it gets released here on FADER/Kitchenware in April. The band will do a larger U.S. tour soon, starting with SXSW.

If you like Editors, and singers who sound more like Ian Curtis than Interpol, you should check out Aberdeen City, if you haven't already.
