12 Rods

December and January are shaping up to be pretty dead months for shows in Minneapolis. I've been checking Chicago schedules for when I go home, and it seems like there's nothing going on there either. (Drop me a line if you know of anything hot coming up)

But tomorrow, there is something very notable happening in Minneapolis, and it's even right here near the U.
How often do you discover a fantastic band? How often do you fall in love with their debut EP? And how often do you find out that they're playing their entire EP at a special show ten minutes from your place, seven years after the fact?

12 Rods made a splash on the indie scene in 1996 with their debut Gay? EP. I've had people rave to me about it before, but haven't had a chance to listen to it until recently. I fell in love with the droning synths and strangely sung melodies, particularly of the first track "Red". Upon checking the band's website, I found out that tomorrow, Sunday, December 7, the band will be playing two sets at the tiny Dinkytowner from 6-10 PM, for only 10 bucks. The first set will be comprised of new material from the band, which according to some people should be great, and for the second set they will play Gay? in its entirety.

I have no idea what the event will be like, but I'm going to make sure and get there ahead of time. Things like this don't happen every day.
