A LITTLE LEFT BEHIND

I bought the Bloc Party's new self-titled EP on Dim Mak this weekend. Really good stuff. Listen: "Staying Fat", "She's Hearing Voices", and "Banquet".

BRMC is recording their next album; Nick Jago may or may not be leaving the band. I am jealous of the Spanish fan Romero who got to play drums for them. Also, they report getting a surprisingly strong reaction to new songs; haven't signed with a new label since splitting with Virgin.

Finalists for the Shortlist prize include the Ferd, The Streets, The Killers, Air, Loretta Lynn, and our favorites TV on the Radio.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs release a DVD in October; sounds hot, includes unreleased song "10x10" and others.

The Ferd at T in the Park raises the question: doesn't it hurt to be so snazzy?

Holy crap, The Hives at Metro. The Hives have also come up with fall/winter tour dates and will be hitting Minneapolis in November. One show I can't wait to catch for sure.

You can catch the new video for the single "The End Has No End" on The Strokes' website. I don't get the concept, but I like the performance clips shot in a mirrored room. How Flock of Seagulls of them. Muse says their new music will sound like The Strokes. Um, weirded out.

New Mu and Le Tigre at Fluxblog.

M83 interview at Pitchfork.

The Arcade Fire tour dates.

Trail of Dead tour dates.

Ted Leo/Pharmacists tour dates.

Britt Daniel's remix of Interpol's "Slow Hands" is on the new CD single. Review.

Ambulance and Elefant members featured in NY Times style [via MM].

The Futureheads' excellent self-titled debut will be released stateside in October through Sire.

Hey Peter
I was wondering if you could explain the sound of bloc party and the futureheads? Also do you have any knowledge as to when the new Elefant album will be due? And one more question. Do you know if Willy Mason is any good? He's on Conor Oberst's label and has been compared to Elliott Smith in the CMJ magazine. Take care man.
all the best, Chris

willy mason is only okay.

i saw him do a song before rilo kiley.

he does the stutter sing and sings about and says 'fuck' freely.

he sort of looks like he should be a beach boy.
