ROBOTS ROCK

This post is actually about MUZAK. Sweet. Some songs I've been listening to:

>>Tiefschwarz feat. Matty Safer - "Warning Siren"

Tiefschwarz are a German brother producer/DJ duo and they are on-and-off shit hot. This is off their debut original album Eat Books. The import is cheaper at Amazon than the non-import for some reason. It features Matty Safer, bassist from the Rapture, on vocals, AKA the one without the annoying voice i.e. Luke Jenner. I was skeptical, but found the track to rock pretty hard without being too obvious. Blips and bloops and hi-hats and strings coalesce into a very funky groove, while Safer takes a really laid back approach to singing that makes for a really refreshing dance track. Also, when he sings "the sound of guitars never meant anything before you," some chugging guitars come in, and it works. Highly recommended.

Tiefschwarz's Misch Masch came out at the start of this year; it's a two disc set featuring a DJ mix as well as a mix of a majority of their remixes. Check more of them at Discogs.

>>Ladytron - "Destroy Everything You Touch"

This really caught me by surprise. Ladytron's earlier albums were a mystery to me, as in "why do people like this so much" mystery. They were boring, static, and were hardly danceable. So when Holy Shit and I debuted this track on the radio station a few weeks ago, I was really surprised when it totally rocked my face off. The whole new, third album from the UK foursome, Witching Hour, is quickly becoming one of my favorites from this year. Visceral and icy-cool at the same time, with some really smoky emotion lurking underneath the shiny surface of the album's grooves. You can stream this track and a few more at their website. There's also a weird video floating around the internets, but I can't be bothered to locate it at this moment in time.

Right now Ladytron is only on a DJ tour, and will stop at Chicago's Smart Bar on November 17th (shout out to MAI68). Hopefully they'll tour behind this record later on.

>>stellastarr* - "Sweet Troubled Soul"

Their debut s/t EP had me in a frenzy. Then the album came out and the frenzy accelerated. Now I don't really like this band anymore. I got a promo of their second album this summer and was not impressed. Thankfully I stumbled upon this song, which is exactly what this band is good for. An addictive new wave guitar line and swirling vocals and corny lyrics. Dig it. Just for fun. Streaming at their MySpace page.
