RAP-TURE

Anticipation for The Rapture's next LP is starting to build (again). Thanks to an ILM thread from a few weeks back, I found out that the boys in the Rapture are getting some pretty impressive replacement producers - a good move, considering what big shoes they have to fill. Paul Epworth (Phones), Ewan Pearson, and even Danger Mouse (so many credits) have been tapped to record and produce. That's pretty crazy, especially since these cats produce so impressively on their own. Can't help but wonder wtf this might sound like.

To add to the general Twilight Zone vibe, around the time of this interview, the Rapture played one of their first live shows in a long time last fall; the Voice reviewed it... and they liked it (to be fair, it was fellow DFA-enthusiast/"I don't work here anymore" Nick Sylvester). New York Magazine liked it so much, they named the virtually unhyped show the best of 2005. Catch video from The Rapture at Crash Mansion on their site.

Anyways, nothing that new coming from these guys (links are all rather old if you follow my del.icio.us), but the other day I dug out this track for a friend, and since I still like it so much I thought I'd write about it.

Dopplebanger produced one of the few mash-ups I've heard with any real staying power. It's rather uncomplicated; the vocals from Mobb Deep's "Got It Twisted" are layered over the Rapture's "Sister Saviour (DFA Vocal Mix)". However, the result is more than the sum of its parts. The addictive bounce in the Rapture track contrasts with Mobb Deep's darker raps, which take on a more insistent quality due to a slightly faster tempo.

If you crave more Rapture info, track the punks down at their Hush Hush Weekender night in NYC and harass them for demos or something. Then send them here.
