MALE ELECTRONIC MUSICIANS WITH GIRLY FIRST NAMES, PART ONE
I didn't read the Status Ain't Hood review of Kelley Polar's live debut at the Knitting Factory until last week. Holy shit:
[Polar] hired an entirely black-clad seven-piece string section... He brought Morgan Geist to handle laptop duties and play an electronic drum-pad and wear what looked like a Batman mask. Polar and a female singer walked onstage in pastel druid robes; as soon as the beat kicked in on the first song, they flung the robes off, revealing that the girl was wearing an immaculate white disco-queen dress and Polar was rocking a He-Man breastplate tricked out with blinking neon lights.
I repeat: holy shit. Someone please tell me he is going to tour. Or, taking into account reviews of the show, please tell me he is going to practice, and then tour.
BV, who did not really enjoy the performance, posted a few photos from the show.
At the end of last year, it seemed that Isolée's record was the electronic record that made everyone's list, but Polar's record Love Songs... grabbed me a lot more than We Are Monster. My current favorite track is a bit of snappy, sexy, sharp disco. Gotta love the strings.

I loving both Kelly Polar and Jaime Lidell. Some of the best records of 2006 and 2005.
