One unexpected highlight of my trip to Italy last summer was the chance to view Italian MTV. Maximo Park on MTV? Whoda thunkit.
There were, of course, downsides. Like this goddamn James Blunt "You're Beautiful" song. At least I'd never hear that shit get over to the states, right?
Yes, I was very wrong. Shudder. A friend of mine went to a James Blunt concert last week in order to see The Boy Least Likely To [...make good music]. He left before the headliner, but even that makes me shudder.
A curiosity that I haven't been able to knock out of my consciousness: singer J. Blunt's summer 2005 album cover compared to singer J. Lidell's summer 2005 album cover. I blame the new iTunes commercial about the cubicle or cuticle or whatever, where they show one of them (can't remember which).
First initial J + blue + face stencil + more blue = album cover.
I just got into this Jamie Lidell record after having a moment watching Subterranean (a "why are they playing Stax records on MTV2?" type moment). This guy is seriously talented; I dig the production and the vocals are killer. First guitar bands, now soul music on Warp; again, whoda thunkit.
Lidell is playing the Varsity Theater on 4/19, and judging from his live photos, it could be pretty whacked out. (If any Warp-ers are watching and wish to send me to said concert, please speak up.) I assume he's touring for the upcoming Multiply Additions, which has some live tracks, remixes, etc. I've heard some of it, and it's pretty decent as well. Check this Freeform Reform mix of "When I Come Back Around". As far as I can tell, it's from this particular Freeform.

Also head over to MAI68 to check the redesign and the post on Daft Punk's "Musique". I was going to post the same track and my associated revelation, which I may still do, but Ned beat me to it. And for the record, the track is better than he gives it credit for.

The Boy Least Likely To are amazing :( and if you were referring to me (which you may have, I dunno), leaving before James Blunt was the greatest decision of my life. That crowd was scary. SCARY.
that freeform reform of jamie lidell is by freeform five
