There is something weird going on this week, as I keep stumbling upon new shit that I didn't even know existed. I am not alone, as the peeps at Fader (oh god I'm starting to talk like them) got their hands on a promo copy of Nelly Furtado's forthcoming Loose. Fader always does this; a series of posts/articles I could care less about, and then they break exactly what I'm looking for.
Their track-by-track rundown of the album makes me even more excited to hear the rest of Loose (ok, mainly just the Timbaland produced tracks). I've heard both leaked demo-type recordings and proper promo CDS copies of "Maneater" and "Promiscuous", and both are in my top five singles for the year so far.
"Promiscuous" is like an update of Human League's "Don't You Want Me" that I feel will be just as classic in the future. At LEAST as much chemistry here between Furtado and Timbaland as any Aaliyah or Missy track he's done so far, if not more. The beat is pure slinky sex, and the lyrics seem to just drop out of the sky randomly, albeit fully-formed. Like when Timbo goes "It's ok/ it's all right/ I got somethin' that you won't like," I have no idea what he's talking about, but it makes perfect sense anyway, live I've heard it before.
"Maneater" is like Missy plus Goldfrapp plus Robyn. Powerful, pulsating stomp that I didn't know Timbaland was capable of, with Nelly sounding absolutely, totally in control. Move your body around like a nympho. I love the part where she's talking about crackin your neck around and the record scratches backwards in sync.
Today I found a vinyl rip of track "No Hay Igual". Same sharp production from Timbo with a sultry Spanish turn on vocals for Nelly. Preview that shit at her MySpace. Be forewarned: there is some weird shit going on in the comments on that page if you're using Firefox.

It'd be nice if you posted the songs you're talking about.
i can't wait for the entire album. it's a big departure from her previous work but i'm ready to embrace it.
