YOU GONNA GET IT

Mediaeater has some great photos up from Coachella.

I haven't got much to report on this week... I was up for 28 hours on Wednesday/Thursday... stuff has been a bit nuts. The concert calendar on the right has been updated in anticipation for my return to Chicago; there are some really great shows coming up. And you have noooo idea how happy I am to get back to a city with 18+ shows. SO HAPPY.

In lieu of ... anything else, here's some of what I've been lisetning to lately:
  • Death From Above. Insane bass drums and vocoder music, with strong hooks and an absolutely huge sound. Catch these guys on tour with The Fever this summer.

  • Coachwhips. Imagine the hard hitting punk of The Gossip crossed with the bluesy, keyboard/guitar driven hooks of The Sights, and add the most abrasive sound you've ever heard and you start to approach something that sounds like Coachwhips. Their latest album, Bangers vs. Fuckers, is non-stop blues that hits so hard you can hardly believe it, and then it's over in less than 2 minutes. I really hope they play the Fireside again sometime soon; I can only imagine how insane that show must have been.

  • The Fever. The new album Red Bedroom is more of ... The Fever. With a little more new wave added in. Love it.
I've also been listening to... other stuff. I am inarticulate today. Sorry. I've been spinning Air's Talkie Walkie, Mando Diao's Bring 'em In, The Raveonettes' Attack of the Ghost Riders, Modest Mouse's Good News for People Who Love Bad News, and the Secret Machine's Now Here is Nowhere. Too lazy to format and link. Google away.
