THE SLOW DESCENT INTO AN APPENDECTOMY

The New Pornographers show for tonight, as of yesterday, is cancelled. That means either head to the Warlocks at 400 Bar, or Metric at the Ascot room. I'm on the list for the latter, but my conflicting feelings about the album have me unsure of whether I'll be there or not. Or you could go to one of the many other shit shows that are going on around town (American Analog Set? Sam Prekop? Do you like music?)

From the Madison venue's mailing list via More Cowbell:

I am very sorry to report but after last nights show in Chicago for the New Pornographers, John Collins, the bass player, suffered from an appendix attack. He ended up having to have it taken out and the band will be canceling their last two shows in Madison tonight and Minneapolis tomorrow.

The band has been racking their brain to figure out a way that they can play without him but they have exhausted all possibilities.

This is a postponement. The date will be replayed as soon as possible. Ticket holders should hold on to their tickets. Tickets are not being refunded until a rescheduled date has been announced, which should be either today or tomorrow. Please check in at our website for more information over the next few days, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

If anyone goes to see Warlocks, let me know how they are. And why they need two drummers.

LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean were fucking fantastic Wednesday night. The Prince impersonator, not so much. I didn't get any photos, but I did get to sit down and interview James Murphy and Juan, two of my favorite artists/people, so look for excerpts from those next week sometime.

What did you think of the Metric show?

sorry, didn't really mean shit. i just get frustrated easily working a lot with shows/venues, and i find people getting excited about artists i find relatively boring, while they don't care about shows like the new pornographers.

amanset was in the top 5 shows i've seen this year. and i PAID for it. that's how bad i wanted to go.

The purpose of Warlocks' two drummers is (and I quote Boby Heckher himself in "Resonance")to create a 'sound of unison'. "It was like we'd found the missing part of our sound...It helps to capture our wall of sound on tape. I would listen to our tracks and say, 'They need to sound bigger.'" C'est raison!!!

i went to the sam prekop and juana molina show. was way late and missed sam prekop (who i'm a fan of), but juana molina was fantastic. you call them boring, yet you recommend metric and the fucking warlocks? i mean talk about zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. also, new pornographers were going to be a 21+ show.
