Striking
"It’s very competitive, this crew we have, of DJs — competitive about how good it sounds, like how good our mixing and mastering is, because that’s a fucking skill that we all hone and try to compete with each other. It’s also how different it sounds, and how it can be integrated into a set. Those are three qualities a record has to have if you’re a producer. And at the other end, I’m still producing pop and R&B records, and I take a little bit of what I learn in the club scene with my friends and take a little of that pop style, and try to use it to my advantage and just keep learning."I also did not know that the Clash sample in "Paper Planes" is actually replayed, and not a direct sample.

Pitchfork: Interviews: South Park's Matt Stone
"Cartman is just a great character. You bring a lot of that emotional baggage about him to the song. And frankly, Trey's a fucking great singer and performer himself, and he's really great when he's disguising himself as a character because he's not as vulnerable as a personal singer. And I don't know. We had to hear him do Lady Gaga."South Park is amazing, including the current season. This interview cleared some things up for me, especially about which guests stars were real or fake, and where the theme song came from.

What You Want
"I mean, you don't always make the music you love. A lot of times you can't. I make the best music I can. But when I sit down in the studio, it just doesn't come out like a Ben Klock record. Even if I wanted it to. That's the thing: If I could make stuff like Aphex Twin, I probably would. So far I haven't been able to, so it comes out like it comes out."

Eno Times
Guardian: On gospel, Abba and the death of the record: an audience with Brian Eno
"In the 70s, no one would admit that they liked Abba. Now it's fine. It's so kitsch. Kitsch is an excuse to defend the fact that they feel a common emotion. If it is kitsch. you put a sort of frame around something – to suggest you are being ironic. Actually, you aren't. You are really enjoying it. I like Abba. I did then and I didn't admit it. The snobbery of the time wouldn't allow it. I did admit it when I heard 'Fernando'; I could not bear to keep the secret to myself anymore and also because I think there is a difference between Swedish sentimentality and LA sentimentality because the Swedish are so restrained emotionally. When they get sentimental it's rather sweet and charming. What we really got me with "Fernando" was what the lower singer was doing, I don't know her name. I spent months trying to learn that. It's so obscure what she's doing and very hard to sing. And then from being a sceptic I went over the top in the other direction. I really fell for them."I adore both Eno and ABBA. The interview has many other fascinating ideas from the man.

Trash Yourself
Dummy: Dan Avery has a quick drink with Erol Alkan
"If I had just gone around the world playing Trash sets, would I still be doing it now? The answer is no. I could still play sets like that if I felt alternative music was still in the same place but it isn’t. What Trash helped create kind of destroyed what alternative music was back then. Trash was electronic club music and guitar bands played together – now bands want to be both things."

CREDET TO THE EDET

This Beatportal interview with dance music pioneer Greg Wilson is pretty great:
You are a figure associated with vinyl purism and also re-edits, so what do you think of the idea of disco downloads? With nu-disco being driven by digital as well as by vinyl?
I wouldn’t say I was a vinyl purist. It’s not so much about the format for me, but the quality of the music played, whether this is via turntables, CDJs or laptop.
We can never go back to how things were, nor should we want to - I don’t like nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, although it’s important to learn from the past if you really want to approach the future from a position of true understanding.
I’m excited about the way things are nowadays, it’s a very open time for music. People consume music much differently to the way they did when I was younger, but that’s OK as far as I’m concerned. Things can’t remain static - the moment people start wishing themselves back to the old days is the moment they start to grow old.
It’s not enough to just respect that past, you must also respect the future and the people who are shaping it.

MEDIATED
You can catch a quick interview with myself today on Taylor's excellent Mediation blog, as part of his Interview Week. Again, I really recommend adding his blog to your feed reader. For the record, I'm pretty sure I'm 0% Russian. And while we're at it, 0% Chinese, too.
