Panda Room

Tonight I'm playing at Jetset for my friends' 18+ party, Locker Room... Panda Room!  Expect house and disco jams, new and old.

I'm playing the opening set at Too Much Love on Saturday, where we're lucky to have special guest Dustin Zahn.  Dustin is an incredible techno producer, making waves around the world with releases on labels like Rekids, Drumcode, and his own label Enemy, and I'm really looking forward to him rocking the First Ave mainroom.  Head over to the TML site for more details.

Shit Robot

I am thrilled to have Shit Robot at Too Much Love tomorrow.  His latest single, "Simple Things (Work It Out)" has been an anthem of sorts for this year, and I love listening to his DJ sets.  He has a fantastic take on production and house music, so I can't wait for tomorrow.  More details at the TML blog.

The Bot was the guest on Beats in Space this week, where he and James Murphy gave TML a small shout-out.  Definitely listen to his set on BiS, and check out his "Simply Shit" mix on XLR8R.

Shit Robot began his mix with LCD Soundsystem's latest track, a cover of Alan Vega's "Bye Bye Bayou" which you can stream on MySpace.  Vega's Suicide has come up more and more often as a reference point for music I enjoy - I heard the Horrors have been ending shows with "Ghost Rider" - so I was really not surprised when this song popped into my life.  It's a driving synth work out, with expertly delayed vocals, and what sounds like helicopters descending in Vietnam.

In Flagranti

This Saturday, I have a very special edition of Too Much Love. In Flagranti, one of my favorite producers and DJs, will be headlining. For more info, check out the TML blog.

As a sidenote, tonight I will be playing music with my friend Dom Terrace at Gang Chen in Minneapolis, from 10 until 2. It's 2-4-1's the whole time, and I hear the food is good, so get down to Nicollet and hang with us. It's basically a block off Franklin Ave, towards downtown, at 1833 Nicollet Ave S, and I've seen it get pretty wild. Join us!

$99

You can find me at a ton of events in Minneapolis this weekend, so come out!

First, on Friday evening, I will be DJing the $99 Sale at the Soap Factory with my friend Elliott Payne. The $99 Sale is an extremely cool art event in the Twin Cities, and I can't find a flier for it, but you can read about it at the $99 Sale website, or in this week's City Pages A-List.

Directly following, I will be dropping disco and house heaters at Jetset, which is always a fun time. Jetset's hip interior and classy cocktails are a win. 21+ and no cover.

On Saturday, I will be joined by my frequent partner-in-crime Naughty Wood for a trip at Too Much Love. Naughty Wood gets the kids hyped on acid house and trippy disco, so
expect a hot night of dancing. [Facebook event]

Finally on Sunday, my buds the 717 Boys (aka Josh and Travis from the Moon Goons and Wurst Music) will be taking over my monthly night at the Kitty Cat Klub. Denial is always a fantastic way to end the weekend, with bloody marys and a very wide selection of tunes, and I'll be sad to miss this one. Luckily you don't have to! It's 21+ and FREE. Check out my live Denial promo mix here. [Facebook event]

SUMMER CLUB JAM

TOO MUCH LOVE is proud to present SUMMER CLUB JAM, an extra special night of music featuring internationally acclaimed DJ Jacques Renault, on Saturday July 25th at First Avenue.

Jacques Renault has released music on his own and as a part of RUNAWAY on world-reknowned labels DFA, Rekids, Italians Do It Better, Wurst Edits, I'm A Cliché, and more, as well as been voted Best NYC DJ for Paper's Night Life Awards. His refined productions, unique vision of house and disco music, and acute ability to read any audience, has made Jacques a stand-out amongst his peers in the elite, international sphere of electronic music.

With Jacques Renault headlining, and resident Sovietpanda opening the event, it will sure to be one, if not the most, memorable summer night at Too Much Love. As always, TML is 18 and over, starts at 10pm, and is just $3 to get in, or $1 with student ID.

Check out Jacques Renault's brand new summer mix at DFA Radio Mixes.

DOWNTIME

My webhosting went down recently, which partly explains my abscense here. I'm incredbly frustrated but will rethink things soon, and return shortly.

In the meantime, I've been focusing my blogging energy on the new Too Much Love blog. Check it out for interviews with DJs, TML press and photos, charts, podcast, and other goodies.

JUPITER ROOM

I've got a busy weekend and A NEW MIX! CHECK IT:

Friday night marks the debut of Jupiter Room at Jetset, just outside of downtown at 115 N First St. Last December, my friend James Stair and I threw an impromptu holiday party at the club with a few of our friends. It turned out to be an overwhelming surprise success. It was one of the busiest nights at Jetset ever; bottles were literally bouncing off the shelves.

Since last time was so much fun, we're doing it again. This Friday, Jetset's modern and minimal design is the setting for the Jupiter Room. I will be playing cosmic disco and house beats, while James feeds sci-fi video clips to the club's multiple projectors. Jetset has some of the best cocktails in town, and Premium and Schlitz are only $2 from 10-11. If you were at the last party, you know to expect a good time, and if you weren't, don't miss out this time! Facebook event is here.

To promote the night, I've put together a spaced-out dance mix for download. Ready for take-off:

Finally, Sunday is the fourth installment of DENIAL, my monthly night at the Kitty Cat Klub, and the right way to end your weekend. Come to the Kitty Cat Klub in Dinkytown to sip drinks, lounge on big couches, shoot some pool - and dance, of course. Laidback tunes will be brought to you by myself and special guest Tooth Juice from the Moon Goons. Facebook event here.

PRIME TIME

EAMON HARKIN

Tonight sees the return of NYC DJ Eamon Harkin to Sovietpanda's Too Much Love party at First Avenue. Coming off of a fresh 12" release on the venerable Wurst Edits label, and garnering much support from the world's best DJs, expect an amazing night of dancing to classic music new and old.

In the past year alone, Harkin has shared bills with many of dance music's most elite. For his party Prime Time at new NYC hot spot Santos Party House, Harkin has hosted DJs including electro pioneer Greg Wilson, Rub-N-Tug, DFA's Hercules & Love Affair, disco edit master Todd Terje, and Italo disco legend Alexander Robotnick, while his weekly summer jam Sunday Best featured sets from Roy Davis Jr., Riton, Danny Wang, Joakim, and Kevin Saunderson. And the list goes on, having played with In Flagranti, Crystal Castles, Peter Hook of New Order, Diplo, Glass Candy, the Glimmers, Tim Sweeney, Moby, A-Trak, CSS, Afrika Bambaataa, and MSTRKRFT to name a few. Check out his Myspace and his recent classic house mix.

Harkin is a great DJ with a wide-ranging selection of vinyl, making this a night not to be missed, so make sure to hit up First Avenue on Saturday for Too Much Love. 18 and over, $3 or $1 with student ID, Sovietpanda opening. As a bonus, acid house developer DJ Pierre is playing upstairs in the VIP room.

TML INTO OBLIVION

Tomorrow is a Very Big Deal. The Juan Maclean are touring behind their new forthcoming album, and it is fucking amazing - full of classic disco, house, and techno references, while aimed straight into the future. It is some of the best stuff to come out on DFA, period. The band line-up this time around features Juan Maclean, Nancy (LCD Soundsystem), Nick (Holy Ghost!), and Jerry (!!!, Turing Machine), and is stopping at the 7th Street Entry for a show Saturday night.

After the show, there's free crossover into the mainroom for the back-to-school edition of Too Much Love, which should be off the hook. I will be playing alongside the incomparable Naughty Wood, with Juan and Nick coming by after the show to spin records. Absolutely not to be missed!
